For my video my idea is the evolution of life, with the baby's first steps to when you slowly age and everything becomes slower and you're basically back to the beginning again; struggling on the idea of walking. So for my video, it will start off with a small child, probably two or three years of age, walking. It will then transition into a young boy/girl who starts to run and soon skip. And as the person becomes older they learn more about what you can do with your feet, but soon after you become really old everything starts to slow down, and at the end you struggle to walk. So the video will focus on feet and the many things you can do, and the movement will start slow, go fast, and slow again, with the person falling at the end. As of now this my idea, and I hope that it will turn out how I want it. To achieve this I will probably use the experimental technique of layering on multiple effects, using multiple sound tracks as well.
These videos attached below all inspired me with the way you can take the video and the overall idea. Because they all focus on feet and different variety, my idea was the first thing I could think of. The first video influenced my idea of focusing the feet of the person and having a main focal point, and not having so much other stuff going on during the video. As for the second video, I like how the camera stayed in place and the only movement was with the person walking towards the camera. So the camera techniques used in the video is what I would like to use in my video. The final video had a really strong statement to it, and it was brought out really clearly. I hope after seeing my video, the message is clear, but I also want it to be open for interpretation as well. Overall, each video brought something new to the table, and my idea has glimpses and techniques in each one, which really add to the film as a whole.
This experimental is called Walking a Mile in My Shoes by Gary Burke. The main reason why I chose this video is because unlike most experimental videos, this one had a happy vibe to it. When looking at examples there seems to be a repeating pattern of a grungy look with multiple edits, but this one was almost like a music video. I thought this take on experimental video was really cool. Gary Burke the creator of the video took the idea of walking in different shoes in different environments, & the struggle with each scene and put it all together. But instead of emphasizing the struggles and different experiences, he focused on the idea of being able to see the world differently. Just the idea of new shoes and new scenery that can make you have a different take on the world. This idea and journey really captured my eye.
This film is called The Long Walk by John Cunha. This video really portrays emotion with the black and white effect and the music in the background, this is what I wanted to do in my video as well. I think the original score done by Cunha added a lot to the emotion and message to the film. It was really simple and there wasn't so much stuff clattered into the video to portray the message either, which I really liked. The simplicity of the video is the main reason I chose this video; there wasn't much going on the video itself but the way the video was taken and the soundtrack made it really powerful.
The last video that really caught my attention was by Alicia Evans, although the video didn't have a title the idea behind it was very developed and shown nicely. Basically the video said a lot about how one step through a door could transform you into a new person and into a new world. I thought the idea of one single step changing the way you see the world and changing you as a person was really neat, and true to a certain extent. A step in the wrong direction could lead you to total destruction or it may lead you to total success, and the choice in direction you take is all up to you. This idea was shown really simply and the message was brought out clearly as well.
